1. What’s your story? How did you get into all these languages?

I’ve fortunately been raised by multilingual parents in a multilingual country, I’ve

picked up the European languages spoken around me and noticing the differences  between the languages is what got me into linguistics and learning

more languages. It’s quite addicting as well.

2. Which language(s) do you wish you could spend more time practising?

I’d say Dutch. Although it is one of my native languages, I do not get much time to practise since I do not live there and I hardly have anyone to speak it with.

Italian would probably be the close second, since I’m currently getting better at it.

3. What are some languages you’d like to learn in the future?

I’ve already got my plate set, I’m actively learning Italian, and I will learn Romanian soon.

In the more distant future, I’m planning on learning Icelandic, possibly a Chinese language or two.

4. So let’s be honest, what’s the sexiest language?

I think Italian is the sexiest, although Japanese comes close, I am very biased though. I  really like the sound of Icelandic and the far northern Scottish dialects.

5. What’s the greatest pleasure you get from speaking so many languages?

The greatest pleasure is the feeling of progress, those moments where it clicks.

6. Some people say the world is really just going to have a few languages left in a 100 years, do you think this is really true?

It’s hard to say, the internet is still relatively new, so it must be properly understood  before any real predictions can be made, but for now, I’d say no. we will still have many  languages.

7. What is your message to young (and not so young) people out there who are interested in studying multiple languages?

I’m still only 19, but I guess what I’d say to the people younger than me is: We ball

for the not so young: never give up!
