1. What’s your story? How did you get into all these languages?
I am from Buenos Aires, Argentina. I grew up here so my first language is Spanish. Since I was a child, i was really curious about languages. I always talked to foreigners trying to understand what their thoughts were or how their origins were.
I started learning languages at my old house in Vicente Lopez (a neighbourhood north of Buenos Aires), one day, when I was 15, I was at home enjoying the day and I just tried to download an app and see what it could offer to my life and to my possibilities. I always avoided my English classes when I was a child, but, suddenly everything changed. I started to get really involved in languages. At first, I started learning English and Portuguese at the same time.
It blew my mind. Then, I got into French; I started watching videos on YouTube and practising with Duolingo and Busuu. Therefore, I became really good at French and I discovered that French was my favourite language, so, I went to classes at the Alliance Française. After a while, I got into Italian and German learning with apps, videos and TV shows and I found a passion when i had contact with languages, I felt taken out of the world and floating on the space.
2. Which language(s) do you wish you could spend more time practising?
I would like to practise more Italian, because I need to update my knowledge and I am really into German so I am setting Italian apart and I found it a beautiful language, but I don't talk too often to Italian people so I am losing this beautiful feeling of practising and feeling the language on you.
3. What are some languages you’d like to learn in the future?
I would really like to learn Japanese and maybe Dutch. I find Japanese a very curious language and I would really like to go to Japan, I find their culture amazing, their ideologies, their clothes, I mean, It's a new universe for me and I am looking forward to discover it.
4. So let’s be honest, what’s the sexiest language?
I think, French is the sexiest language, because of this French thing of pronouncing the vowels like nasal and delicate sounds, Italian is really sexy too and their 'singing' sounds are captivating to any ear.
Both languages are a marvellous option to learn and both of them fight to know which one more romantic and handsome is.
5. What’s the greatest pleasure you get from speaking so many languages?
To know a lot of people around the world and to truly enjoy languages, discovering new cultures, new horizons, I always say that languages are a key to the world, you can discover many places, many cultures, many costumes, many traditions, many shines, many deceptions, I mean, They are essential to know the human being and to interact with.
6. Some people say the world is really just going to have a few languages left in a 100 years, do you think this is really true?
We don't hope so, but, yes, it is a true threat and if we don't speak them all the time and if we don't get involved with them, we are going to lose them. We can save languages by speaking them every day, talking to people and training people about how important they are, trying to share them with their respective cultures, to show them to people who don't have access to them, trying to make them get to places that haven't been reached by the globalization yet.
That's we can do to save languages and to make them a patrimony and to feel proud of us.
7. What is your message to young (and not so young) people out there who are interested in studying multiple languages?
Go study languages, Come meet this beautiful world and come discover how good languages are for you and for us, for our world. Keep going with your dreams, show that language that you find amazing to another person who doesn't know it, if you are a mother or a father, show to your children and teach them another language, make them discover this beautiful world and let them be a part of it, You won't regret it and your children neither.
